Our first session will feature leading academics and experts, offering a deep dive into significant research outcomes that are shaping the future for migrant workers in Australia.
With extensive expertise on the Workplace Justice Visa, Laurie Berg will share critical insights on the research and advocacy that led to its implementation.
We will also launch our new research report, ‘Carrot or Stick: When Academic Degrees Become Bargaining Chips for Migration Pathways’, which explores the experiences of past and present international students in Australia.

Migrant Justice Institute uses research to press for law and policy reforms to address migrant worker exploitation in Australia. For decades, Laurie has led research teams on migrant workers’ access to justice, responsibilities of business and technology for migrant empowerment.

Sherry has a diverse range of roles and achievements. As an advocate, researcher, union organiser and freelance journalist, she has dedicated her efforts to the migrant workers' movement in Australia. She is currently pursuing her PhD in sociology at La Trobe University.
