Earlier this year, we met Fu Cong who left China for Australia, as he was out of options back home. On a bridging visa with work rights, he found a job at a printing company. He is now owed about $5000 of unpaid wages and redundancy entitlements after the factory went bankrupt.
Some Australian companies are deliberately using liquidation as a tactic to avoid paying entitlements to their employees, as the migrant workers aren’t covered by the Fair Entitlement Guarantee (FEG).
At the moment in Australia, more than 900,000 migrant workers are excluded from FEG.
