Ambassador Panel

The Bicultural Work Rights Ambassadors Program is run by the Migrant Workers Centre to train and support migrant leaders in Victoria to deliver education sessions on workplace rights and safety to their communities.

People born overseas and working in Australia are disproportionately likely to face exploitation at work due to factors such as a lack of familiarity with Australian workplace laws, language barriers and prohibitive visa conditions. Wage theft affects two in every three migrant workers, and one in every four will experience other forms of labour exploitation such as discrimination, sexual harassment, and unsafe work. Labour exploitation also has significant flow-on effects to health, wellbeing, and social and economic participation.

The program employs and trains active and trusted members of Victorian migrant communities to become Bicultural Work Rights Ambassadors, who are supported to deliver information sessions to their peers on workplace rights, occupational health and safety, and how to access culturally and linguistically appropriate support services.
