Join other leaders of migrant workers, communities, and organisations on a roundtable to discuss the future of Australian migration.
Australia's migration system is at a crucial inflection point, plagued by issues like labour exploitation, the limbo of "permanent temporary" visas, increasingly long visa processing times, and visa holders striving against the odds for permanent residence.
Our migration system is fundamentally broken.
The Federal Government is showing readiness for significant reform, and have acknowledged the need to improve fairness and outcomes for migrant workers in Australia. With this window of opportunity, it's time for us to amplify the needs and rights of migrant workers. By coming together and raising our voices, we can influence change and contribute to crafting a better migration system for all people living and working in Australia.
At this virtual roundtable, participants will be invited to make contributions around the following key questions:
-
How can Australia make the visa process easier and more accessible for migrants?
-
What measures can Australia take to better support new migrants and visa holders?
-
How can we better recognise and value the contributions of migrants to Australia?
These contributions will form the basis for questions put to Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs The Hon. Andrew Giles MP at Day 2 of the MWC Conference 2023.
